And yet sometimes you may want to identify and fix issues related to the sound and video or you to change the system behavior. I have no sound in the Line Out but only in Headphones. I have installed Pulse Audio and I found that despite that the cable is plugged in it says "Unplugged". I used a spare disk and I installed windows and surprisingly I found that the Line Out worked fine.
